Senior Planning Solicitor

An exciting Locum opportunity has arisen for a Senior Planning Solicitor to join a London-based Local Council. This role is ideal for an experienced Planning and Regeneration Solicitor looking to make an impact by providing specialist legal advice to the Council, its partners, and stakeholders. You will play a crucial role in supporting legal matters, planning inquiries, and litigation processes, ensuring the Council operates within its legal framework effectively.

This locum contract will commence in 2 to 3 weeks, offering a competitive £65 per hour rate (Umbrella).

Key Responsibilities:

✅ Manage a full caseload of Planning and Regeneration legal matters, providing specialist legal advice.
✅ Deliver complex legal advice with minimal supervision.
✅ Represent the Council in planning inquiries, Magistrates' Court, County Court, and High Court hearings.
✅ Advise elected Members, Executive Committees, and Sub-Committees on legal matters.
✅ Draft legal reports and provide expert strategic guidance on planning law.
✅ Instruct Counsel as needed and assist in preparing legal cases.
✅ Provide training and guidance to internal teams, ensuring compliance with Lexcel practice standards.
✅ Supervise and mentor junior legal team members, contributing to their professional development.
✅ Assist in the development and continuous improvement of the Legal Services team.
✅ Ensure adherence to Health and Safety, Data Protection, and confidentiality regulations.

Skills & Requirements:

✔ Qualified Solicitor (Minimum 4 years PQE) with public and/or private sector planning experience.
✔ Strong background in Planning and Regeneration law, with experience advising Local Authorities.
✔ Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
✔ Experience representing clients in planning inquiries and courts.
✔ Knowledge of local government procedures and planning regulations.
✔ Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a legal team.
✔ Strong stakeholder management skills, including engagement with Council Members and external partners.
