Senior Power Systems Engineer

Hoare Lea, a leading human-centric and planet-conscious engineering consultancy, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Power Systems Engineer to join its growing HV team. The role offers the opportunity to work on challenging infrastructure and mission-critical projects, including Data Centres across the UK and Europe.

As part of a collaborative and innovative team, you will take responsibility for technical delivery of power systems analysis across HV, MV, and LV distribution. This includes performing complex design calculations, ensuring safe and efficient energy systems, and working on projects ranging from small-scale developments to major critical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver day-to-day technical solutions including electrical load assessments, utility connection sizing, generator and UPS integration, renewable energy technologies, and distribution system design.

• Produce design deliverables such as specifications, drawings, and schedules.

• Carry out design and calculations of substations and connections from LV to HV.

• Undertake advanced studies including load flow, fault level, G5/5 harmonic analysis, and protection coordination studies.

• Conduct earth rise, touch, and potential studies.

• Engage with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.

• Manage project-related financials, including invoicing, WIP, and resource planning.

• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, graduates, and apprentices.

Candidate Requirements:

• Strong background as a Power Systems Engineer, HV Engineer, or related discipline.

• Proficiency with engineering tools/software such as BIM, Revit, CAD, ETAP, Amtech, or EOM.

• Expertise in HV substation design, earthing, CT calculations, arc flash, protection studies, transient analysis, and resilience assessments.

• Experience with LV system analysis software to model networks and run advanced studies.

• Ability to undertake G99 export applications and power quality/harmonics studies.

• Capable of producing schematic designs, specifications, and detailed reports.

• Experience in consultant/client-facing design roles.

• A collaborative, open, and mentoring mindset with a passion for accurate design systems.
