Description:
The Environment Agency is seeking a Hydrology Senior Technical Specialist to deliver a robust and resilient hydrology service across Cumbria and Lancashire. This role requires strategic leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to build capability, champion innovation, and deliver through partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop technical resilience and implement new ways of working alongside the hydrology team.
Work with water resources technical leadership to plan strategically for a sustainable future.
Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support sustainable water management.
Provide direction, specialized expertise, and support on complex, reputational, political, or technical activities.
Undertake analysis and resolution of complex hydrological problems.
Play a critical role in responding to environmental incidents, especially during water stress.
Deliver Area hydrology and project work effectively.
Team Focus:
Provide technical advice on water resource management and regulation.
Address issues such as Water Framework Directive compliance, Catchment Abstraction Management Strategies, Water Industry National Environment Programme, drought plans, and sustainable abstractions.
Work across offices in Preston, Penrith, and Warrington.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Extensive hydrology and water resources expertise.
Leadership and team management experience.
Excellent communication and influencing skills.
Ability to deliver results through coaching, mentoring, and managing talent.
Innovation and best practice advocacy.
Ability to translate organisational ambition into strategic and tactical plans.
Technical resilience planning locally and nationally.
High-level support for Incident Management.
Educated to at least degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific discipline; Chartered status desirable.
Full UK driving licence required.
