Senior Transport Planner

Description:

Pegasus Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Transport Planner to join its growing Solent Transport Team in Portsmouth. This is an exciting opportunity for a transport professional with a passion for sustainable mobility, infrastructure development, and transport strategy to work on a wide range of high-impact projects across the UK.

As a Senior Transport Planner, you will be involved in all stages of development planning projects — from initial site selection and due diligence through to design, planning, and implementation. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to deliver intelligent, sustainable, and effective transport solutions that shape communities for the future.

This role offers exposure to complex transport planning challenges, professional growth through ongoing development programs, and the chance to contribute meaningfully to creating accessible, sustainable, and people-focused environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support all aspects of development planning project work through the full development cycle.

  • Prepare detailed Access Strategies, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Parking Strategies, and Construction Traffic Management Plans.

  • Conduct junction modelling using software such as Junctions 10 (Arcady, Picady) and LinSig.

  • Engage with local highway authorities and participate in Section 106 (S106) negotiations.

  • Provide inputs to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) related to transportation.

  • Analyze traffic data and propose sustainable transport and active travel solutions.

  • Contribute to shaping the group’s transport and infrastructure projects through data-driven planning.

  • Ensure compliance with current planning policy and guidance (e.g., NPPF, DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20).

  • Collaborate effectively with clients, project teams, and local authorities to ensure successful delivery.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • A degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related discipline (Master’s degree in Transport preferred).

  • Proficiency in transport modelling software (Junctions 10, LinSig, TRICS).

  • Strong understanding of national transport policy and technical guidance (NPPF, DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client and stakeholder engagement.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on sustainable transport outcomes.

  • Experience handling development planning and infrastructure projects of varying complexity.

Benefits:

  • Competitive remuneration and benefits package (details available at pegasusgroup.co.uk/careers).

  • Commitment to ongoing training, career development, and mentorship through Pegasus Group’s Stepping Stones Programme.

  • Opportunity to work on diverse, large-scale, and innovative transport and infrastructure projects.

  • Supportive and inclusive work culture that values professional growth and collaboration.

  • Access to cutting-edge tools and data-driven methodologies in transport planning.
