Description:
Covea Insurance is seeking a highly skilled Senior Motor Trade Underwriter to join their Commercial Lines team, responsible for profitable development and underwriting within the Midlands, North, and Scotland regions, as well as the wider Mid Market Business. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with brokers and manage bespoke commercial motor trade risks while driving business growth and maintaining strong relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
Profitably underwrite commercial motor trade risks in line with Covea’s underwriting criteria.
Actively manage and develop the regional motor trade portfolio, including collection and delivery accounts.
Regularly work on-site at broker offices to build and maintain strong relationships as the nominated development underwriter.
Engage with a panel of Mid-Market brokers to encourage new business and retention.
Contribute actively to team growth targets by prospecting and optimising sales and retention.
Maintain thorough and accurate records using Covea’s systems and comply with company practices.
Ensure underwriting decisions remain within strategy and authority limits, referring exceptions appropriately.
Provide excellent service levels to both internal and external customers, aiming to exceed expectations.
Stay informed of the commercial lines market, broking landscape, and relevant legislation or litigation.
Offer technical underwriting support and guidance to colleagues.
Candidate Requirements:
Extensive experience in underwriting and trading commercial motor insurance products.
Detailed knowledge of the broker market and commercial motor sector.
Proven ability to manage and develop broker relationships effectively.
Demonstrated success in meeting and exceeding personal and team objectives.
Awareness of market developments and legal/industry changes impacting underwriting.
Professional qualifications preferred: minimum Cert CII; Dip CII or working towards it is advantageous.
Strong trading and prospecting skills to drive new business and retention.
Decisive underwriting approach with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Good problem-solving skills and adaptability.
