The Directorate of Technology, Estates and Facilities [DTEF] is responsible for ‘providing outstanding work, study, research facilities, and facilities to enhance the student experience, on campus and online’.
Facilities: Campus Services: Facilities, Admin. & Customers, Accommodation & Room Bookings, Commercial Services: Retail, Catering, Conferences, Nursery, Copy & Print, York Sport, York Science Park Ltd & Guildhall.
This role is part of the “Teaching & Learning” team within Digital Services, currently building the enabling capabilities for a modern educational technology ecosystem for the University of York.
Collectively, Digital Services teams look after a portfolio of services and integrations across the breadth of the University (including Student Recruitment, Teaching & Learning, Finance, HR, Research, Partnerships, Estates, Content Management and Communications).
As a Development Team Leader, you and a Product Owner will co-lead an agile team of software developers and business analysts, working together to develop and enhance a simple, modern digital teaching and learning experience at the university.
You will line-manage a small team of software developers, helping to further expand our developer community by recruiting and onboarding new members of staff, coaching and supporting them and helping staff further their careers.
You will also be involved in making strategic team decisions, as well as contributing to the Digital Services departmental team strategy as part of the leadership of our Service Delivery Teams.

Previous experience of coding in a modern programming language, using modern software development practices such as unit testing and continuous integration
Experience with Amazon Web Services or other cloud platforms
Knowledge of web technologies, an appreciation for different software architectures and an interest in developing these skills further
Great communication skills, including the ability to inspire, motivate and coach others
