Description:
NHS Blood and Transplant’s Therapeutic Apheresis Services (TAS) is a flagship patient-facing service delivering life-saving and life-enhancing treatments across the region. As a Specialist Nurse, you will provide therapeutic apheresis and cell collection procedures to adult and paediatric patients, both within the designated TAS unit and outreach locations across various hospitals.
You will join a team delivering high-quality nursing care, supporting emergency and elective patients and donors as part of a 24/7 on-call rota. You will also support, mentor, and supervise less experienced staff and student nurses.
Perform therapeutic apheresis and cell collection procedures for patients and donors
Plan and manage nursing care, providing advice and clinical support
Ensure safe, compassionate care within a quality management framework and policy guidelines
Maintain nursing practice standards meeting regulatory and legal requirements
Communicate effectively with patients, staff, and stakeholders to support patient-centred care
Provide clinical support and mentorship to junior staff and students
Travel and work irregular hours including overnight stays as required with prior notice
Experience & Knowledge:
Clinical management and decision-making skills
Experience planning and evaluating clinical practice changes
Ability to work to performance objectives and targets
Mentoring and coaching experience in clinical environments
Knowledge of clinical audit, research, and best practice principles
Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint)
Qualifications & Training:
Registered Nurse with current NMC registration (RN1 or RNA) with a clinical degree, or equivalent post-registration experience/qualification in acute or specialised clinical area
NMC registration must be maintained throughout employment
Teaching and/or assessment qualification or equivalent experience
Evidence of recent post-registration education and professional development
UK driving licence
Commitment to continuing professional development (CPD)
