State Aid Lawyer

Description:

Pinsent Masons is seeking a Public Procurement and State Aid Lawyer to join their Competition, EU and Trade (CEUT) group. The role focuses on advising clients on procurement law, UK subsidy control, EU State aid, and trade law. The candidate must be commercially aware, capable of risk-based advisory, and enthusiastic about internal and external business development. Excellent research, organisational, and communication skills are essential, along with a team-focused, client-oriented approach.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide legal advice on public procurement, state aid/subsidy control, and trade law.

• Work on high-profile and strategic projects, including government and multinational clients.

• Take a risk-based approach when advising in complex procurement matters.

• Support internal and external business development initiatives.

• Collaborate closely with colleagues across the CEUT group.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 3-5 years PQE in relevant legal areas.

• Knowledge of Public Contracts Regulations 2015, Public Contracts (Scotland) Regulations 2015, and Procurement Act 2023.

• Familiarity with UK subsidy control and EU State aid.

• Strong research, organisational, and communication skills.

• Commercially minded and innovative, with interest in legal innovation.

• Team player with client-focused approach.

Notable Projects:

• Advising Ministry of Justice on high-value prison and probation service procurements.

• Advising international rail client in High Court procurement dispute.

• Supporting nuclear and strategic projects.

• Assisting with procurement litigation, subsidies, and trade remedies for multinational clients.
