Statutory Accountant

 

Description:

Element, a leading global provider in testing, inspection, and certification, is seeking a Statutory Accountant to join their Global Business Services (GBS) team in Edinburgh. Reporting to the Senior Technical Finance Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation and filing of statutory financial statements for the UK legal entities of the group and will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance and quality in financial reporting.

As part of a collaborative GBS Statutory Reporting team, this role will involve coordination with internal teams and external auditors, use of advanced finance technologies, and contributions toward process improvements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare statutory financial statements for assigned legal entities under FRS 101 using Workiva software.

  • Collaborate on external audit deliverables and ensure timelines are met.

  • Support corporation tax pack preparation and submission in coordination with the Tax team.

  • Reconcile right-of-use assets and lease liabilities using Lease Harbor.

  • Transition and support new statutory ledger processes via Microsoft Dynamics 365.

  • Perform quarterly reconciliations from group to local GAAP financial results.

  • Partner with GL teams to substantiate accounting results and balance sheets.

  • Engage in process documentation and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Provide ad hoc financial support across GBS teams as needed.


Candidate Requirements:

Essential:

  • Qualified accountant (ICAS, ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).

  • Experience with FRS101/FRS102, especially IFRS9 and IFRS16.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Advanced Excel skills with experience handling large data sets.

  • Experience in statutory reporting, ideally within a complex group structure or practice environment.

  • Self-motivated and highly organized; thrives in a fast-paced setting.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365, Navision, Blackline, Board, Workiva, and Lease Harbor.

  • Understanding of intercompany and group recharge processes.

  • Experience with ERP and BI systems.

  • Familiarity with internal controls, audit compliance, and business process improvements.
