Description:

Markel International, part of the global Markel Corporation (NYSE: MKL), is seeking a Tax Advisor to join their expanding Tax Advice team in Rugby. This full-time hybrid role involves primarily remote work, with one in-office day per week (flexible depending on candidate needs).

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver telephone-based technical tax advice to accountancy clients and affinity members.

  • Manage client interactions with professionalism and ensure a high standard of customer service.

  • Research and respond to tax queries using current legislation and HMRC guidelines.

  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of advice provided.

  • Support team members through knowledge-sharing, mentoring, and collaborative problem-solving.

  • Ensure compliance with FCA regulations and internal policies.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK direct taxation rules and apply them practically in client cases.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Solid working knowledge of UK direct taxation rules and their application.

  • Practical experience handling a variety of UK tax issues.

  • Ideally, hold qualifications in tax and/or accountancy (preferred but not required).

  • Excellent research and communication skills with a courteous and efficient telephone manner.

  • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and work to deadlines.

  • A proactive, inquisitive mindset and a desire to improve service efficiency.

  • Flexible and adaptable approach to changing workloads and business needs.
