Description:

The University of Warwick is offering a 4-Year Technical Apprenticeship Programme through its WMG Department. This apprenticeship provides an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various engineering disciplines while studying for a Level 4 college course.

As part of the Technical Services team, you’ll support cutting-edge research at WMG, contributing to the development of advanced manufacturing and engineering technologies. The apprenticeship will cover key areas such as Additive Manufacturing, Automation Systems, Battery Materials, Engineering Materials, Laser Beam Welding, and more. You’ll be trained in core engineering practices and have the chance to develop practical skills across a range of disciplines, including:

  • Advanced Machining
  • Additive Manufacturing
  • Automation Systems
  • Battery Materials and Cell Manufacturing
  • Energy Applications
  • Intelligent Vehicles
  • Laser Beam Welding
  • Mechanical Testing
  • Metrology and 3D Imaging
  • Nanocomposite Materials
  • Health and Safety Practices

You will combine academic learning with practical, hands-on experience to develop a deep understanding of engineering and technical services.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake core engineering training, gaining experience in various technical fields.
  • Support the Technical Services team in research and development projects.
  • Work with advanced technologies such as additive manufacturing and laser welding.
  • Apply health and safety practices and workshop best practices.
  • Participate in the Technical Apprentice Assessment Day (May 2025) for selection.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • A genuine interest in engineering and technology.
  • Some hands-on experience in mechanical work, electronics, or similar technical projects.
  • Curiosity for understanding how things work and a passion for problem-solving.
  • A proactive approach to learning and skill development.
  • Team-oriented, working collaboratively with others in a dynamic environment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing both work and academic responsibilities.
