Description:

Markel International, part of the Fortune 500 Markel Group (NYSE: MKL), is seeking a Senior Contract Wordings Technician to join its Wordings Team within the Office of the Chief Underwriting Officer (OCUO). This role provides a unique opportunity to work closely with underwriters, divisional leadership, and support functions, playing a vital role in ensuring that Markel’s insurance products and wordings meet regulatory requirements, maintain consistency, and deliver value to clients.

The Wordings Team forms part of Markel International’s Corporate Management structure, with responsibility for risk, performance, governance, technical underwriting, and customer outcomes. This role offers the chance to contribute to strategic projects, regulatory compliance, and the continuous improvement of Markel’s products and services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review and provide expert advice on various wordings, including Markel products, Binding Authorities, Coverholder, and broker wordings.

• Stay current with legal, regulatory, and market developments, advising underwriters on their implications.

• Develop guidance for underwriters on wording-related issues, including emerging risks and market trends.

• Maintain and ensure accuracy of the central wordings repository, providing comprehensive records and reports.

• Coordinate with team members to ensure timely service delivery to underwriters.

• Conduct thematic reviews of product lines and wordings post-bind.

• Support product and process changes due to regulatory updates.

• Assist with technical knowledge development across product lines, including delivering training.

• Provide assistance during internal and external audits.

• Collaborate with Compliance, Legal & Regulatory, IT, Product Governance, and Operations teams.

• Participate in strategic project work, leading the development of customized clauses and wordings for complex risks.

• Present findings, simplify complex topics, and share technical knowledge across the organization.

Requirements:

• Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to build consensus.

• Proven experience drafting legal contracts or insurance policy documents.

• Solid knowledge of insurance markets, products, and terminology.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex topics clearly.

• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently to manage projects.

• Team-oriented approach with experience collaborating across functions.

• Project management skills and experience of working with senior stakeholders.
