Description:

The UK's fleet of Scientific Research Vessels provide the scientific platform to support the UK’s worldwide oceanographic research programme.

National Marine Facilities (NMF) is part of the National Oceanography Centre (NOC), Southampton, a collaborative centre between United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI), NOC and the University of Southampton. NMF is responsible for the operation and management of two UKRI owned research vessels as well as providing wider support in the co-ordination and management of the UKRI / Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) Marine Facility Programme.

The primary role of the Third Engineer is:

  • The maintenance, safe and efficient operation and watch keeping of all technical and associated equipment on board the vessel.
  • Acts as understudy to the Second Engineer Officer.

About you

For this position, it is essential that you hold the following:

  • Seafarer Medical Certificate (ENG1) without restrictions
  • STCW basic safety training (Fire fighting, Personal survival techniques, Personal safety & social responsibility, Elementary first aid)
  • Passport
  • UK Discharge book
  • STCW95 Certificate of Competency CoC Officer of the Watch 111/1
  • Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
  • STCW Advanced Fire Fighting
  • Designated Security duties
