Description:

Azenta Life Sciences, a company driven by innovation, technology, and collaborative work culture, seeks a dedicated Tool Technician to support its production department. The role is based in Wotton, Surrey, in a rural location requiring own transport. The Tool Technician will work primarily in the tool room, servicing and cleaning injection moulding tools to ensure timely production schedules are maintained. This role demands excellent attention to detail and high-quality workmanship.

The technician will be responsible for dismantling injection mould tools, cleaning and inspecting them for faults, reassembling, and returning them to production. Additional duties include repairing, maintaining, and calibrating tools, jigs, fixtures, and instruments. Supporting production areas such as the clean room for cleaning or repairs may occasionally be required. The role emphasizes maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily servicing, cleaning, and inspection of injection mould tools in the tool room or factory

  • Repairing, modifying, and servicing injection moulding tools and associated tooling

  • Documenting all service and repair work electronically, including photographic records of issues

  • Supporting production through cleaning or repairs in the clean room when needed

  • Servicing other toolroom and production equipment as required

  • Assisting with equipment repairs and breakdowns

  • Maintaining cleanliness and safety in the work environment

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Relevant qualifications such as City & Guilds (C&G), NVQ, or Apprenticeship training

  • Solid experience in mechanical assembly and disassembly, and basic wiring skills

  • Experience working with manual and CNC machine tools, including Surface Grinders, VMC, Milling, and Centre Lathes

  • Mechanical Engineering or Toolmaker apprenticeship background preferred

  • Experience with injection molding tools beneficial but not essential

  • Knowledge of high precision injection tooling, polishing, finishing, hot runner systems, and multi-cavity tooling advantageous

  • Ability to read and interpret 2D component drawings; wiring drawing experience is a plus

  • Core computer skills (email, Excel, Word)

  • Ability to work cooperatively in a small team environment with good communication

  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, adapt to change, and maintain a positive attitude
