Description:
Cambridge City Council, working in partnership with Huntingdonshire and South Cambridgeshire District Councils, operates a Shared Service for Building Control, which is dedicated to delivering a customer-focused, professional, and cost-effective service. As a Trainee Technical Consultancy Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting the Technical Support team by ensuring smooth business processes, providing technical administrative support, and effectively managing workflow to meet performance standards using council information systems.
In this role, you will be responsible for handling customer enquiries, providing basic guidance on building control queries, and managing the registration and validation of routine applications. You will also be tasked with processing telephone payments, logging and updating records with inspection requests, and ensuring all records are accurately maintained. This role requires high levels of accuracy, organisation, and attention to detail to ensure the delivery of a reliable and responsive building control service.
The ideal candidate will be well-organised, methodical, and detail-oriented, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. You should have the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing demands. Key Responsibilities:
Handle customer enquiries and provide first-line guidance on building control queries.
Register and validate routine building control applications in line with council processes.
Take and process payments over the telephone in a secure and accurate manner.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of inspections and additional information received.
Work flexibly within the Technical Support team to ensure performance targets are met.
Support the team in embracing change, maintaining high standards, and driving service improvements.

Hours: 37 per week (Full-time)
Working Pattern: 5 days per week
Contract: Fixed-term (12 months)
Location: Hybrid – home and office-based across the 3C Shared Service operational area.
