Transport Team Manager

 

Description:

Booker Group is currently hiring a Transport Team Manager to join their Retail Partner site in Fareham, working on-site and full-time. The role is critical to ensuring the efficient, legal, and cost-effective management of the site’s transport operations, with responsibility for achieving high service levels across contracts, maintaining transport compliance, and promoting operational excellence.

The Transport Team Manager will report directly to the Transport Operations Manager and play a hands-on role in leading and supporting the transport team to meet key performance indicators (KPIs) while driving a positive and collaborative workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the site management team in managing daily transport operations in compliance with safety, legal, and efficiency standards

  • Handle vehicle breakdowns and minimize impact on retailers

  • Analyze tachograph infringement reports and conduct follow-ups with drivers

  • Coordinate with warehouse operations for timely loading and departure of deliveries

  • Ensure full legal compliance, especially regarding Driver’s Hours regulations and fleet maintenance

  • Oversee MOT schedules, servicing, and defect management of fleet vehicles

  • Maintain accurate and timely planning of labor and resources to meet KPIs

  • Demonstrate strong leadership to develop team members and maintain high levels of motivation and engagement

  • Enforce health and safety, employment law, and compliance with transport legislation

  • Communicate clearly with team members and other departments

  • Utilize IT tools including Excel, Word, and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)

  • Hold CPC qualification (essential)

Candidate Requirements:

  • Prior experience in a transport supervisory role within FMCG or distribution is essential

  • Excellent communication and people management skills

  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and focus under pressure

  • Strong knowledge of transport laws, health & safety, and employment legislation

  • Able to analyze data and implement performance improvements

  • Skilled in planning and resource management

  • PC literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office and WMS

  • CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification is mandatory

  • Must be over 18 years of age if the role involves early or late shift hours
