Description:
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN), part of the SSE Group, is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Tree Cutting Quality & Safety Inspector (QSI) to join their team in Oxford. This permanent, full-time role offers flexible working options and is key to ensuring the safety, quality, and compliance of arboriculture contractors working on SSEN’s overhead network maintenance programme.
As a QSI, you will act as the crucial interface between SSEN and the utility arboriculture contractors responsible for vegetation management around power lines. Your role involves overseeing contractors’ performance, conducting site inspections, and ensuring safety and quality standards are rigorously maintained to protect the integrity of the electricity network and public safety.
Manage tree cutting projects, including tracking changes to planned works, approving cut spans for payment, and inspecting completed work for quality assurance.
Conduct on-site Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) engagements to ensure contractor compliance with health and safety regulations.
Act as a liaison with customers and support contractor surveyors in obtaining necessary consents, particularly where landowners initially refuse permission for tree cutting.
Provide coaching and guidance to contractors and maintain accurate date reporting for project tracking.
Conduct vegetation surveys to assess infestation and risks in line with SSEN’s procedures and standards.
Identify inefficiencies or issues within the contractor operations and suggest improvements to enhance service quality and safety.
Use IT tools proficiently, including the Microsoft Office 365 suite, for reporting and communications.
Maintain a full, clean, manual driving license to enable site visits.
Utility arboriculture knowledge and experience are essential, with specific certifications such as UA 1; UA5.1/5.2 are desirable but training can be provided to the right candidate.
Strong safety orientation and customer-focused mindset.
Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with contractors, clients, and internal teams.
High level of self-organization and the ability to work proactively.
IT literate, confident with Office 365 and other business applications.
Holds a valid, clean manual driving license.
