If you are a Trial Manager or have the skills and qualifications to be one, this is your opportunity to be part of the Global Health Trials Unit (GHTU) at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine! You will be part of the GHTU which conducts research in infectious diseases, in low- and middle-income countries across the globe. Our aim is to deliver clinical trial services, within a GCP envelope, in challenging environments and to provide partners with the necessary tools to conduct research in a pragmatic but efficient manner.

The GHTU is recruiting for a Trial Manager to deliver high quality research whilst maintaining excellent standards and practice. As the Trial Manager you will play a key role in the planning, coordinating and delivery of GHTU projects whilst working closely with and in collaboration with the GHTU Manager, Chief/Principal Investigators, Programme Managers, Data Managers, Medical Statisticians, and other relevant stakeholders. Managing the Trial team comprising of Study Coordinators and Trial Administrators, you will be Liverpool based and required to undertake regular short overseas travel.

Key Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • End to end management of clinical trials including obtaining all relevant approvals, budget management, site set up and recruitment, ensure adherence to regulatory and ethical requirements and trial protocols through to follow-up and close down procedures.
  • Liaise with the Trial Steering Committee and Independent Data Safety and Monitoring Committee with a particular view on compliance with Research Governance, Good Clinical Practice, Data Protection and Ethical Requirements
  • Support and guide investigators, researchers, and junior members of staff and engage with external stakeholders to promote the GHTU and its objectives
  • Responsible for the recruitment, training, appraisal and supervision of trial team members
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of trial specific training programmes to staff at participating sites
  • Contribute to the trial’s public profile and assist in updating the protocol and trial related literature

To be successful in this role, it is essential that you demonstrate:

  • Degree in relevant life sciences or (global) public health related discipline, or extensive equivalent,
  • Demonstrable experience in clinical trial management or clinical or medical research
  • Experience of working on research projects within collaborations based in a number of different countries
  • Excellent project management combined with evidence of successful completion of complex tasks
  • Ability to drive projects forward, whilst ensuring that relevant guidelines and regulations are adhered to, involving working within a team and delegating tasks appropriately.
  • Understanding and good working knowledge of Good Clinical Practice and of trial sponsorship duties
