Description:
The Environment Agency is seeking a highly motivated and skilled professional to take on the role of Waste Exemptions Senior Advisor. This position plays a pivotal role in managing the Waste Exemptions (WEX) regime, ensuring it operates on a sustainable footing and delivers significant environmental, regulatory, and business benefits following the implementation of WEX charges on 1 July 2025.
As the Waste Exemptions Senior Advisor, you will be responsible for managing WEX income, business planning, resourcing, and organizational priorities while tracking performance. You will collaborate closely with the Ruby Digital Team to enhance online registration services, the national customer contact center, and the payment center. The role also involves liaising with Defra, Natural Resources Wales (NRW), trade bodies, and networks to align operational delivery with policy development.
You will support technical reform work at critical milestones and build resilience within the WEX team. The role requires strategic thinking, collaboration, and the ability to influence stakeholders to achieve regulatory objectives.
Oversee and manage the Waste Exemptions (WEX) regime including income, planning, and resources.
Develop and enhance online registration and payment services in partnership with the Ruby Digital Team.
Align policy development with operational capabilities through collaboration with Defra, NRW, and trade bodies.
Monitor performance measures, broker organizational priorities, and ensure sustainable regime management.
Support exemptions reform and provide leadership at critical stages of development.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work culture while promoting diversity and innovation.
Strong knowledge of waste regulation from an operational perspective.
Familiarity with the regulatory framework governing the sector, including its strengths and weaknesses.
Demonstrated business management skills with the ability to deliver outcome-focused results.
Experience working effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Proven ability to work collaboratively to achieve shared goals.
Flexible working arrangements with an EA office base and hybrid options.
Some travel and overnight stays may be required.
