As water and environmental policy developments drive a more integrated approach to water services and environmental stewardship, Mott MacDonald has taken a leading role in supporting clients develop practical approaches to implementing systems approaches. Clients require increased integration of environmental and infrastructure systems and greater engagement with other sectors such as agriculture, transport, industry and power generation. In particular, the UK is undergoing a period of transition in the funding of environmental stewardship creating new opportunities for collaborative, multi-benefit, multi-sector programmes to achieve water and environmental outcomes.

In this role you will lead projects that extend our systems analysis and system mapping work furthering our partnerships with key clients such as the EA, Defra, water companies, regional planning bodies including government. You will be involved in policy forming research work, pioneering new approaches to the water and environment sector and supporting wider efforts for integrated and digital approaches to infrastructure and the environment.

In the role you will support or lead creation of value/benefit frameworks, resilience frameworks, theories of change, road mapping, system transformation. You will work with our teams to develop benefit frameworks, resilience frameworks and blended finance. You will support work on development of interconnected digital twins by mapping interactions of infrastructure (see CreDo project).

Strong candidates will have the opportunity to lead business development extending our offering to new clients while continuing to increase our technical portfolio of system related client offerings.

Candidate Specification

Required for the position of Water and Environmental systems advisor - senior or principal.

  • Experience of working with systems
  • Broad perspective on water, environment and social systems
  • Excellent facilitation, stakeholder engagement and liaison skills
  • Experience of collaborative working for the development of frameworks, programmes, projects, or roadmaps.
  • Good report writing and presentation skills.
  • Relevant water resources, geography, environment, or other related master’s degree
  • Experience and knowledge of the UK’s water and environment policy context

Desirable

  • Experience of value/benefit frameworks, resilience, theory of change, road mapping, system transformation
  • Good marketing skills and experience in writing proposals
  • Good visual communications
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Awareness of enterprise systems, Project 13 and Industry 4.0
