Description:

In this role you will collaborate with colleagues across the Museum, but especially within the News, Marketing, Exhibitions, National, International Engagement and Interpretation teams to ensure all content delivered is clear and consistent and lands in the most impactful way for different audiences. You will monitor, measure, report on and apply learnings from the Museum’s online activity to assist the Website Content Manager in implementing improvements to the website to help support the Museum’s wider digital strategy.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Producing and editing content for the website, including:
  • Developing and creating new web pages in liaison with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), including exhibition and event pages from concept through to delivery.
  • Editing existing written content to fit brand and style guidelines, uploading this into the Drupal CMS.
  • Commissioning, assessing, and selecting appropriate copyright-cleared imagery to accompany content, using photo editing software, preferably Photoshop.
  • Coordinating photo/video shoots as and when required.
  • Following the editorial style guide, tone of voice and writing for the web guide in updating or generating new content.
  • Optimising web content to align with SEO, helping other content writers across the Musuem on SEO best practice.
  • Ensuring the website adheres to WCAG accessibility standards, using a variety of tools to do this.

About you:

  • Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Preferably in a humanities or related subject, or one aligned with Museum work and collection.
  • Demonstrable 5 years of experience in content editing and production for large websites.
  • Effective copywriting, copy editing and proof reading of short and long form content, using appropriate guidelines.
  • Understanding of content design principles.
  • Experience working with sensitive or controversial subject matter.
  • Good understanding of SEO and UX writing and best practices.
  • Good understanding of audiences’ content needs and familiarity with different segmentation models for identifying specific target groups.
