Description:

The University of Warwick invites applications for a Biomedical Services Unit Technician to join the team responsible for ensuring high standards of laboratory animal welfare and husbandry in accordance with the Animal Scientific Procedures Act (ASPA) 1986. The role involves managing breeding colonies, ensuring animal accommodation and holding facilities are clean, carrying out daily health and environmental checks, and performing unregulated procedures with full training provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage breeding colonies of rodents and fish and maintain high animal welfare standards.

  • Carry out daily health and environmental checks in accordance with ASPA guidelines.

  • Perform unregulated procedures under supervision, with training provided.

  • Maintain accurate records in compliance with local guidelines and national legislation.

  • Work collaboratively as part of a team while also independently managing assigned tasks.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Passion for animal welfare and knowledge of the ASPA 1986 requirements.

  • Excellent team working and communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in laboratory animal care.

  • Familiarity with research laboratory practices.

Contract & Location Details:

  • Full-time, on-site at Coventry campus.
