Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cancer & Aseptic Services Pharmacist to join its dynamic pharmacy team. This is an exceptional opportunity to play a key role in advancing cancer care through the delivery of innovative treatments and the transformation of NHS Pharmacy Aseptic services.
As a Band 7 Rotational Cancer and Aseptic Services Pharmacist, you will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver patient-focused pharmacy services for both inpatients and outpatients. Your expertise in specialist clinical haematology and oncology will support the development of a resilient and efficient cancer and aseptics service, ensuring early diagnosis and personalised care for patients.
Clinically screen prescriptions for parenteral and oral products against approved chemotherapy regimens, including interpretation of blood results.
Screen, dispense, and issue intrathecal injections in compliance with Trust and National Guidance.
Liaise with Oncology and Haematology teams to provide advice and clinical support regarding chemotherapy treatments.
Work with the Accountable Pharmacist to maintain and develop facilities, equipment, and work practices ensuring the highest technical standards.
Act as an Authorised Pharmacist to supervise daily preparation and release of aseptic products in accordance with local, regional, and national guidelines.
Collaborate with the Aseptic technical team and Cancer Pharmacy Team to coordinate treatment provision to the Day Therapy Unit, haematology inpatient unit, and other wards requiring high-risk injectable medicines.
Ensure the Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit complies with legislation and guidance including GMP, GCP, GDP, COSHH, Medicines Act, and departmental procedures.
Perform final release of products purchased as unlicensed ready-to-administer doses from Specials Manufacturers, maintaining ongoing competence in this area.
Prepare, dispense, and release a variety of aseptic products including cytotoxics, epidurals, intrathecals, antibiotics, parenteral nutrition, high-risk injectables, and novel agents.
Essential:
Master’s Degree in Pharmacy.
Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
CPD in line with GPhC recommendations.
Desirable:
Post-graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience.
Additional training in aseptic services, such as TSET Aseptic Services for Managers, quality risk management, or change management.
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check required.
