The company’s innovative platform integrates accounting, payments, foreign exchange, and project management into one seamless ecosystem — empowering clients around the world to manage complex operations effortlessly.

They are currently seeking a Senior API / PHP Developer to join their fully remote UK-based engineering team. This pivotal role is ideal for a highly skilled backend developer who thrives on API architecture, scalable system design, and technical leadership.

As the Lead PHP Developer, you will take charge of designing, developing, and optimising APIs that form the backbone of mission-critical services. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, DevOps engineers, and frontend developers to ensure the platform remains high-performing, secure, and scalable. Beyond development, you will help shape the company’s technical standards, API strategy, and engineering culture.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the architecture, design, and development of RESTful APIs that power core platform services.

• Write clean, scalable, and efficient code using PHP and the Laravel framework.

• Ensure API performance, versioning, authentication, and security meet best practices and compliance standards.

• Collaborate with DevOps, frontend, and product teams to deliver robust and integrated solutions.

• Optimise backend performance through asynchronous processing, caching, and queue systems (e.g., Redis, Horizon).

• Implement CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and Git workflows to maintain reliable deployments.

• Mentor junior engineers, set coding standards, and promote modern software development practices.

• Contribute to architectural decisions that enhance scalability, resilience, and system efficiency.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Proven hands-on experience with PHP (Laravel framework) in building complex backend systems.

• Strong knowledge of RESTful API design, version control, and performance optimisation techniques.

• Solid understanding of MySQL or PostgreSQL databases, including schema design and optimisation.

• Experience with Redis, Horizon, or similar asynchronous processing and caching tools.

• Familiarity with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes for deployment and infrastructure management.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fully remote team using collaborative tools and agile methodologies.

• Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

• Prior experience in Fintech, SaaS, or payment systems is highly desirable.
