Contract Manager

 

Description:

SSE plc, one of the UK’s leading energy companies, is looking for a skilled and experienced Contract Manager to join its Procurement & Commercial (P&C) team, supporting the SSEN Large Capital Delivery Directorate. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of complex, large-scale infrastructure projects that are critical to SSE’s mission of building a net-zero energy future.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing end-to-end procurement and contract management processes, ensuring best value, compliance, and effective risk management throughout the project lifecycle.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the tendering process for large capital projects—from issuing invitations to tender through to contract award and post-award commercial management.

  • Lead the procurement of essential work scopes, ensuring efficiency, compliance, and best value across all commercial, legal, and business risks.

  • Negotiate contract terms and conditions within defined authority levels, securing optimal outcomes for cost, performance, and risk management.

  • Provide accurate cost estimation, forecasting, and budget management for assigned projects.

  • Deliver robust post-contract commercial management services, ensuring that all obligations and deliverables are met.

  • Maintain full compliance with internal governance, capital project controls, and commercial manuals.

  • Act as a trusted commercial advisor to project stakeholders, providing world-class procurement and commercial support.

  • Oversee or guide junior commercial staff where applicable, ensuring consistent adherence to policies and standards.


Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent commercial qualification.

  • Proven experience managing contracts for large capital projects or programmes of work.

  • Strong understanding of Utilities Contract Regulations 2016 and the Procurement Act 2023.

  • Experience in estimating, sourcing, cost control, and contract administration.

  • Solid knowledge of Standard Form construction contracts and bespoke contractual frameworks (especially NEC Contracts).

  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage complex commercial environments with a proactive, solution-focused approach.
