Freelance Heritage Education Consultant

Description:

St Mary Magdalene Church Ickleton is seeking a Freelance Heritage Education Consultant to support the National Lottery Heritage Fund project, “Looking Up and Out: conserving Ickleton’s wall paintings and building inclusive connections.” The role focuses on improving the interpretation of the church’s medieval wall paintings and engaging a wider audience, particularly those with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver activities and interpretative programs to enhance understanding of the church’s medieval wall paintings.

• Engage diverse audiences, including school-aged children and SEND visitors.

• Collaborate with the Heritage Project Evaluator and Local Task Group (Vicar, Churchwardens, Architect, Wall Painting Conservator, key volunteers).

• Support community outreach and volunteer engagement to expand local heritage involvement.

• Attend the church and other local project sites as required; working hours are flexible, including evenings and weekends as needed.

• Ensure all project activity aligns with the objectives of the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Requirements & Skills:

• Proven experience delivering projects funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

• Experience working with diverse audiences, including school-aged children.

• Knowledge and sensitivity for engaging SEND visitors.

• Ability to work independently on a freelance basis, managing tax and insurance obligations.

• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, depending on project needs.

• Enhanced DBS check required.
