Description:
The General Manager – Finance, Risk & Compliance is a senior leadership position with strategic and operational responsibility for the organisation’s financial governance, regulatory compliance, risk management, and corporate operations. Reporting directly to the Director and Associate Director, the role is a key member of the senior management team and plays a central role in safeguarding the organisation’s regulatory standing, financial integrity, and operational resilience.
The postholder will provide executive oversight of insurance, compliance frameworks, financial reporting, complaints handling, and regulatory obligations across the company’s property portfolio. In addition, the role will lead multi-disciplinary operational teams, oversee office and HR-related functions, and contribute to the organisation’s strategic planning and business development initiatives.
Through strong leadership, governance expertise, and commercial acumen, the General Manager will support sustainable growth, mitigate organisational risk, and ensure the company operates to the highest professional and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities:
• Provide executive leadership for the company’s finance, risk, and compliance functions, ensuring robust governance frameworks are embedded across the organisation.
• Oversee all insurance arrangements, including corporate and building insurance for managed properties, ensuring full regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.
• Maintain strategic oversight of complaints handling procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and best practice.
• Lead and monitor statutory and regulatory compliance calendars, ensuring all obligations are met accurately and within prescribed deadlines.
• Ensure full regulatory compliance across all managed residential blocks, acting as the senior point of accountability.
• Provide senior line management and leadership to Facilities Managers, Credit Control, and Office Operations teams, driving performance and accountability.
• Act as the senior operational lead for office management and the first point of escalation for HR-related matters.
• Partner with Directors on strategic planning, business development, and organisational growth initiatives.
• Lead the development, review, and implementation of company policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Support the Director with oversight of critical business priorities, governance matters, and key deadlines.
• Identify, assess, and manage financial, operational, and regulatory risks, escalating issues where appropriate and implementing mitigation strategies.
Candidate requirements:
• Substantial senior-level experience in regulatory compliance, risk management, and corporate governance within a regulated environment.
• Proven track record of leading, managing, and developing multi-disciplinary teams of five or more employees.
• Degree-qualified in Finance, Economics, or a related discipline; professional qualifications (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) desirable.
• Strong experience in financial reporting, financial controls, and management information at a senior level.
• In-depth working knowledge of FCA regulations and regulatory compliance frameworks.
• Senior experience within property management or a closely related regulated sector.
• High level of IT literacy, with experience overseeing or implementing financial, compliance, or operational systems.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior and board level.
• Strong commercial awareness, strategic thinking, and decision-making capability.
• Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy while supporting and advising Directors.
