Description:

The NSPCC is looking for a Helpline Practitioner to join its UK-wide Helpline, where you will provide vital emotional support, practical guidance, and safeguarding advice to individuals concerned about child protection. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of children by ensuring their safety and well-being.

The role involves offering support to members of the public and professionals across telephone, email, and social media platforms. You will be responsible for assessing risks and liaising with external child protection partners, including Children’s Services and the police, to ensure that effective actions are taken when a child is at risk.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional support and guidance on child protection matters.
  • Use empathy and sensitivity to support adults who believe a child may be at risk.
  • Work with external partners to ensure the safety of children.
  • Collect, assess, and summarise information efficiently in written form.
  • Work a shift rota covering weekdays, weekends, and bank holidays from 8 am - 10 pm (weekdays) and 9 am - 7 pm (weekends).
  • Work a hybrid model with one in three weeks from home, and in-office shifts when required.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • A qualification in a safeguarding-related field (social care, health, education, youth justice, etc.), along with post-qualification experience in safeguarding children or families.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of child protection legislation and safeguarding practices.
  • Experience in high-demand customer-focused roles.
  • Strong IT skills and the ability to collect and summarise information clearly.
  • Self-discipline and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, target-driven environment.
