Placement Developer

Next, a FTSE-100 retail leader employing over 35,000 people in the UK and Ireland, is seeking ambitious and driven STEM students for a 12-month Developer Placement at its Doncaster Warehouse estate. This role provides a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in full lifecycle software development within a fast-paced, innovative retail environment that supports over 500 stores and online operations serving over 70 countries globally.

As a Placement Developer, you will contribute to delivering Next’s technology-driven business solutions. You will work across platforms, translating business requirements into code, developing new concepts, testing and deploying applications, and providing ongoing support. Working closely with other technology teams, you will improve issue resolution, support project work, and proactively enhance your skills, gaining exposure to both technical and business knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:

• Participate in full lifecycle development, from requirement analysis to deployment and support.

• Translate business requirements into functional, efficient, and maintainable code.

• Work collaboratively with cross-functional tech teams to resolve issues and support projects.

• Continuously enhance technical skills and business understanding.

• Proactively contribute to improving workflows and development processes.

Qualifications & Skills Required:

• On track for a 2:1 or higher in a STEM degree or enrolled in a Master’s STEM program with a 12-month placement.

• Strong analytical and programming skills.

• Self-motivated, eager to learn, and able to take initiative.

• Ambitious, with a clear passion for building a career in technology.

• Curious, flexible, and capable of building strong working relationships.
