Platform Manager

Description:

The University of Warwick is seeking a Platform Manager to oversee its Nanofabrication Research Technology Platform (NF RTP) in Coventry. The role involves developing, implementing, and managing the staff, resources, and facilities to ensure the Platform delivers world-class nanofabrication research support across the University.

You will manage bespoke technology platforms and equipment valued at approximately £5 million, providing internationally competitive nano and micro fabrication resources. The role includes advising on service delivery, experimental design, and supporting university staff and collaborators in utilizing the facility.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the day-to-day operations of the NF RTP facility, ensuring legal compliance, high performance, and staff welfare.

• Manage a technicians’ team and coordinate multiple projects efficiently.

• Implement service delivery and experimental design guidance to users.

• Stewardship of specialist scientific equipment, ensuring maintenance, cleanroom operations, and adherence to health and safety legislation.

• Develop and manage annual budgets, including procurement, maintenance, and income generation.

• Provide financial estimates for research projects and monitor annual turnover.

• Build effective relationships with internal and external users and demonstrate skills transfer to staff and collaborators.

• Ensure accurate documentation, interpretation of complex instructions, and adherence to project specifications.

Requirements / About You:

• Significant experience working with specialist scientific facilities and tools in physics, engineering, chemistry, or materials science.

• Experience in cleanroom operations, semiconductor device fabrication, or handling high-purity semiconductor materials.

• Strong technical expertise in nano/microfabrication processes (e.g., lithography, metal/oxide deposition, wet chemical processing, plasma etching).

• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and manage teams/projects effectively.

• Familiarity with health and safety legislation, design, and technical diagrams.
