Principal Registered Building Inspector

Description:

Capita Local Public Services is looking to appoint a highly skilled Principal Registered Building Inspector / Building Control Surveyor to join their dynamic team. This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in improving building safety, ensuring compliance, and enhancing the built environment across a diverse range of projects — from hospitals and schools to residential housing schemes.

This role will see you involved in all stages of the construction process, working closely with partners, stakeholders, and clients, and ensuring that projects meet the highest standards of safety, sustainability, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

✅ Undertake all Building Control functions — including pre-application meetings, plan checks, site inspections, and assessments.
✅ Play a key role in external contracts, growth opportunities, and resilience work within the Building Control division.
✅ Make clear, informed decisions on works, applications, notices, and matters governed under the Building Act, Building Regulations, and the Building Safety Regime.
✅ Collaborate with partner agencies, authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure a joined-up approach to regulatory compliance.
✅ Actively promote and upsell Capita’s Building Control services and specialist consultancy offerings.

What We’re Looking For:

✔️ Significant experience in a Building Control department of a local authority or similar regulatory Building Control body.
✔️ Strong working knowledge of current Building Control legislation, application processes, guidance, and upcoming regulatory changes.
✔️ Familiarity with Building Control software systems and ability to effectively manage digital records and processes.
✔️ Commitment to following the Building Control Quality Management System and Performance Standards adopted by Capita.
✔️ Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide practical and incisive solutions to technical and regulatory challenges.
✔️ Outstanding customer care and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and partners.
