Quantity Surveyor

 

Description:

VolkerWessels UK, through its VolkerStevin division, is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join their Helensburgh team, working on long-term, complex civil engineering projects. The role requires British nationality due to security clearance requirements. Reporting to the Senior QS on site, the candidate will be responsible for managing commercial matters within their designated project section, supporting monthly reporting, and assisting project delivery.


Key Responsibilities:

General:

  • Ensure effective cost management through accurate forecasting and cost/value reporting.

  • Lead procurement processes, ensuring subcontract orders comply with company policy.

  • Monitor cash flow and support staff development on commercial matters.

  • Advise site teams on contractual requirements and protect the company’s commercial interests.

  • Monitor and chase Main Contract payments and ensure professional standards are upheld.

Subcontract Management:

  • Procure subcontractors in line with commercial policy.

  • Ensure subcontract documentation includes clear scope, responsibilities, and quality standards.

  • Accurately measure and verify subcontractor work and investigate records.

  • Issue contractual notices in compliance with subcontracts and legislation.

  • Compile liabilities, accruals, and ensure accurate forecasting.

  • Monitor subcontract attendances and potential contra-charges.

Procurement & Team Engagement:

  • Complete tasks as requested by line manager.

  • Ensure staff understand their roles and responsibilities within the project team.

  • Help maximize staff morale and attend internal meetings to close out actions.


Requirements / Ideal Candidate:

  • Accredited qualification by RICS, CIOB, or ICES, or a degree/HND in relevant fields (Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Building, Urban and Land Studies).

  • Adequate experience as a Quantity Surveyor, capable of managing complex project commercial matters.

  • Strong numerical, analytical, and technical skills.

  • Ability to mentor, support, and develop junior staff.

  • Strong attention to detail, professional conduct, and ability to work collaboratively within project teams.
