School Librarian

Description:

King’s College Taunton is seeking a dedicated, innovative, and visionary Librarian to lead its dynamic and resource-rich School Library. This is a leadership-level academic position that reports directly to the Deputy Head (Academic) and is integral to the promotion of literacy, research excellence, and academic enrichment within the school.

The Librarian will be the custodian of a key academic hub, fostering a deep reading culture among students, managing resources for academic support, and coordinating key academic programs like the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) for Sixth Form students.

This role requires close collaboration with Heads of Department—particularly the Head of English—to ensure the library is aligned with curriculum needs, student interests, and current pedagogical standards. Both print and digital resource curation are essential elements of the role, requiring the Librarian to be both tech-savvy and literature-driven.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the School Library as an academic, literary, and research hub

• Cultivate a school-wide reading culture and promote reading for pleasure

• Oversee the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) program for Sixth Form students

• Champion the use and accessibility of digital and print resources

• Collaborate with academic departments to support teaching and learning

• Ensure the library supports curriculum requirements across all year groups

• Promote innovation in information literacy and research methods among students

• Maintain a safe, inclusive, and enriching library environment

Working Hours:

• Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (1-hour lunch break)

• Contract: 33 term-time weeks + 1 additional week
