Description:
We are seeking a scientific manager to support Quotient’s High Throughput Laboratory. This is a cross-functional management role requiring an understanding of laboratory workflows used to isolate and sequence human cells for the evaluation of somatic genomic variants. The successful candidate will lead a small team of lab-based scientists in the prioritization and execution of cell/tissue based and molecular workflows, and act as a liaison between the High Throughput Laboratory and the Target Discovery team.
An ideal candidate will be familiar with at least two of the following: histology, flow cytometry and molecular workflows. A proactive attitude towards learning and bridging skills gaps from the above skills panel is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend project meetings; interact with cross-functional teams to understand broad project requirements and subsequently implement streamlined workflows through the High Throughput Laboratory to deliver on project objectives.
- Active member of the High Throughput lab team supporting the team where needed to deliver on bench-based processes. This will include all/any of the following:
- Histology (tissue fixation, embedding, sectioning, histochemistry (IHC, H&E)
- Flow cytometry (FACS/FANS, tissue dissociation, cell/nuclei counting, immunostaining)
- Molecular (DNA/RNA handling, Library generation, sequencing submissions).
- Management of Research Associates with scope to grow the team.
- Manage sample workflows to ensure visibility of sample status throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain team compliance with regulatory requirements and quality standards, including the Human Tissue Act and COSHH.
Key Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree plus minimum 6 years of experience in relevant field. MSc and PhD considered against hands on experience. Candidates with scientific management experience will be prioritized.
- Hands on expertise in histology, flow cytometry and/or molecular Biology.
- Experience working in a high throughput/pipeline platform
- Familiarity with using ELN for recording laboratory processing as well as sample status.
- Broad understanding of tissue/cell biology and molecular genetics.
- Ability to work both quickly and diligently, completing high-quality work on schedule.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work successfully in a matrix environment, where tasks may be assigned by people other than your direct line manager.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and balance competing priorities effectively.
- A high degree of energy, accuracy and attention to detail, and a passion for contributing to work leading to the creation of transformative medicines for patients with serious diseases.
- HTA awareness is advantageous.
- Experience of spatial transcriptomics would be advantageous.
