Senior Civil Engineer

Description:

Arup, a global multidisciplinary firm of engineers, designers, planners, and consultants, is seeking a Senior Engineer – Roads & Streets to join their dynamic team in Belfast. This is an excellent opportunity to work on exciting projects across the UK and internationally, with a focus on roads, active travel, and sustainable transport infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead design and engineering tasks from concept through to detailed design and construction

• Collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment across drainage, structures, geotechnical, and environmental interfaces

• Deliver assigned tasks within programme and budget parameters

• Provide guidance and mentoring to graduate engineers and technicians

• Ensure compliance with Arup’s internal quality standards and industry regulations

• Prepare specifications, contribute to contract documentation, and support construction delivery

• Coordinate surveys and site activities, and liaise with contractors and stakeholders

Requirements:

• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent; Chartered Engineer status is essential

• Strong technical expertise in roads, streets, and active travel infrastructure

• Familiarity with UK design standards (e.g., DMRB) and multidisciplinary interfaces

• Proficient in 3D highways design tools such as Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer

• Skilled in 2D drafting software like AutoCAD and Microstation

• Ability to prepare technical reports, deviations from standards, and specifications

• Experience in delivering transport projects across different phases

Desirable Skills:

• Experience in private developer-led highway schemes

• Road safety audits and traffic signage/marking design

• Drainage design, contract documentation, and vehicle restraint systems

• Familiarity with digital collaboration tools like ProjectWise
