Senior Design Manager

Bigblue, a prominent construction and development business, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Design Manager to oversee the coordination, compliance, and delivery of detailed design packages across multiple high-profile schemes. This pivotal role involves taking ownership of the design process from initial concept to commencement on-site, ensuring seamless integration of contractual, regulatory, and organisational requirements.

The Senior Design Manager will lead a team of consultants and manage the supply chain to guarantee excellence in every detail. This role offers the opportunity to work on prestigious projects in London while mentoring junior staff and driving continuous improvement in design delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and coordinate design efforts for fit-out, refurbishment, and structural extension projects.

• Manage consultant appointments, including fee negotiations and contractual arrangements.

• Oversee the complete design process, ensuring alignment with programme timelines, compliance, and cost objectives.

• Monitor progress, prepare detailed reports, and uphold high standards of design quality and buildability.

• Collaborate with consultants, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to address and resolve design-related challenges.

• Ensure discharge of Building Regulations and Planning conditions in coordination with the Principal Designer.

• Maintain accurate and current document control using the EDMS system.

• Conduct regular site inspections to ensure design intent is accurately executed.

• Mentor and support junior team members, fostering professional development and innovation in design practices.

Requirements:

• Demonstrated experience as a Design Manager or Senior Design Manager within the construction or fit-out sectors.

• Proven record of managing projects valued between £50m and £100m from design through to site start.

• Strong expertise in design coordination, compliance, and value engineering.

• Comprehensive understanding of Building Regulations, Planning processes, and technical approvals.

• Proficiency in consultant management, scheduling, and budget control.

• Exceptional leadership, communication, and collaborative skills.

• Competency in design and project management tools, including AutoCAD, Revit, and EDMS systems.
