Senior Java Developer

Description:

Booker, the UK's leading food and drink wholesaler, is seeking a Senior Java Developer to join its Branch Systems Team, responsible for maintaining and enhancing the back-office systems used across its branches. This is a key role that offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology, solve complex problems, and shape the future development of critical systems.

The role is primarily home-based, with occasional travel to Basingstoke to work with test equipment. It is ideal for an experienced Java professional with a passion for system improvement and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, maintain, and enhance branch back-office systems.

• Write efficient, reliable, and well-documented Java code.

• Utilize Linux scripting for automation and system operations.

• Collaborate with team members to improve system performance and reliability.

• Use source code management tools (e.g., GIT) and support continuous integration processes (Maven, Jenkins).

Candidate Profile:

• Minimum of 6 years of commercial Java development experience.

• Experience with Linux scripting.

• Familiarity with source code management tools (e.g., GIT).

• Knowledge of Maven and Jenkins is beneficial.

• Experience or willingness to learn COBOL (training provided).

• Knowledge of retail or wholesale business processes is a plus.
