Senior Lecturer

Description:

The School of Civil, Aerospace and Design Engineering at the University of Bristol is seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual to a full-time, open-ended academic position at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, or Associate Professor level in Structural Design Engineering. The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to both education and research within the School, specifically in the areas of structural design, sustainable construction and materials, and built environment design.

As a member of a progressive and interdisciplinary academic team, the postholder will contribute to reshaping the curriculum by integrating design principles with real-world sustainability challenges. The role also involves delivering cutting-edge teaching using modern pedagogy, team-based learning methods, and varied assessment formats.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Delivering and managing teaching activities in design-related subjects for civil and design engineering programs.

• Developing and enhancing learning materials and resources to improve student engagement and outcomes.

• Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate student projects, particularly in the area of structural and sustainable engineering.

• Conducting internationally recognized research with societal impact, contributing to the University’s goals in the Research Excellence Framework (REF).

• Pursuing external funding and research collaborations with other leading academic groups, such as Earthquake and Geotechnical Engineering, or Engineering Systems Design and Innovation.

• Engaging in leadership activities within the School and Faculty, shaping future strategic directions.
