Senior P6 Planner

Description:

Joseph Gallagher Limited, a renowned civil engineering contractor in the UK, is actively seeking a Senior P6 Planner to join their team for a major infrastructure project involving complex tunnelling, shafts, and microtunnelling works. This role is based either in Rugby or Orsett, with an immediate start preferred. The selected candidate will bring significant planning expertise and operate independently, contributing to project delivery through sophisticated scheduling, cost and resource management, and reporting.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a self-driven planning professional with a deep understanding of Primavera P6, particularly in high-risk, underground construction environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, maintain, and manage fully integrated construction schedules across all phases of the project lifecycle using Primavera P6.

• Apply resource- and cost-loading techniques that align with the project’s work breakdown structure (WBS) and ensure accurate forecasting of labour, equipment, and materials.

• Align planning and cost data with budgets and cash flow projections, collaborating with the commercial and finance teams.

• Conduct performance monitoring using Earned Value Management (EVM) and generate reports indicating variances and recommended corrective actions.

• Perform critical path analysis, identify potential delays, and produce mitigation plans to ensure the schedule remains on track.

• Contribute to the preparation of claims documentation where delays or disruptions occur.

• Liaise continuously with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and site teams to ensure program accuracy and integrity.

• Deliver weekly and monthly programme updates, dashboards, and lookahead schedules for senior management and stakeholders.

• Work autonomously and proactively, displaying strong decision-making and analytical thinking.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Primavera P6 Planner on large infrastructure projects, ideally within tunnelling, shafts, or microtunnelling.

• Strong knowledge in developing and managing cost- and resource-loaded programmes.

• Expertise in EVM, progress tracking, and schedule risk analysis.

• Self-starter with the ability to operate independently and manage complex scheduling challenges with minimal oversight.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for seamless cross-functional collaboration.

• Must be immediately available or able to start on short notice.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.

• Familiarity with standard contract forms such as NEC or FIDIC.
