Description:
The Environment Agency’s Innovation Delivery Group (IDG) is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead and deliver complex national projects and programmes. This role requires strategic leadership, project oversight, and effective coordination of multidisciplinary teams to achieve high-quality outcomes in line with organizational objectives.
The IDG portfolio includes projects in water, environment, estates, asset risk, and carbon reduction. The Senior Project Manager will mentor and coach project teams, oversee project delivery, and ensure compliance with risk, health & safety, and quality standards.
Lead projects from initiation through completion, managing costs, schedules, and quality.
Oversee multidisciplinary teams, including project managers, technical specialists, design consultants, and contractors.
Mentor and coach project team members, adjusting involvement to team strengths.
Apply project management tools and techniques across the project lifecycle.
Manage contracts, procurement, and financial forecasting.
Engage and influence senior stakeholders, building effective engagement plans.
Prepare business cases, reports, and other project documentation.
Ensure adherence to risk management, H&S compliance, and regulatory requirements.
Participate in incident response duties as required by the Environment Agency.
Proven leadership of complex projects or programmes, ideally in engineering, construction, or asset management.
Strong project management expertise, including tools, processes, and methodologies.
Commercial acumen with contract and financial management experience.
Ability to manage and influence senior stakeholders effectively.
Strong report writing, business case preparation, and technical documentation skills.
Technical knowledge in risk management and H&S compliance.
Ability to deliver results through others, even without direct control over day-to-day tasks.
Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (ICE, CIWEM, or APMP).
Training and experience with NEC contracts.
Experience preparing Scope of Services for appraisal and construction contract awards.
Project management qualifications: Prince2 Practitioner or APM PMQ.
Base location is flexible; occasional co-location in hub or delivery partner offices may be required.
