Senior Project Manager

Description:

The Environment Agency is seeking a highly experienced Senior Project Manager to join the Innovation Delivery Group (IDG) within the Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) directorate. This role involves providing leadership for projects within the IDG portfolio, managing multi-disciplinary project teams, and ensuring delivery of high-quality outcomes across the lifecycle of complex national projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and oversee project teams including project managers, technical specialists, design consultants, contractors, and support officers.

• Mentor and coach team members, adjusting involvement based on team strengths.

• Manage project performance including financial oversight, programme tracking, and quality assurance.

• Develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships and engagement plans.

• Ensure compliance with risk management, health & safety, and organisational standards.

• Prepare effective business cases and reports.

• Contribute to the delivery of projects focused on water, environment, estates, asset risk, and carbon reduction.

Experience & Skills Required:
Essential:

• Significant experience leading complex projects or programmes.

• Formal project management training and application of project management tools/techniques.

• Strong commercial acumen, including contract management and procurement.

• Experience managing budgets and forecasting.

• Ability to manage and influence senior stakeholders.

• Strong report writing and business case preparation skills.

• Technical leadership in risk management and health & safety compliance.

Desirable:

• Chartered membership of relevant professional bodies (e.g., ICE, CIWEM, APMP).

• Experience with NEC contracts and preparing Scope of Services for contracts.

• Project management qualifications: Prince2 Practitioner or APM PMQ.
