Senior Quantity Surveyor

Description:

Farrans Construction is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Peterborough, playing a pivotal role in one of the largest infrastructure projects in the UK under the Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA). This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled commercial professional to deliver best-in-class service, drive successful project outcomes, manage risk, and enhance innovation within a collaborative environment.

The successful candidate will be entrusted with overseeing commercial and contractual responsibilities, ensuring compliance, supporting cost control, and contributing to financial reporting across major projects. This role requires an individual with strong technical expertise, commercial acumen, and leadership ability to deliver value and ensure contract success.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide expert commercial support and liaise directly with subcontractors on contractual matters.

• Ensure compliance of current contracts, safeguarding the company’s commercial interests.

• Report subcontract status to the Commercial Manager and assist senior staff in pricing variations (across mechanical, electrical, and other scopes).

• Control project costs and assist in producing monthly cost reports and progress statements.

• Prepare financial statements of anticipated Final Account, detailing the status of variations (budget, submitted, agreed).

• Contribute to procurement, tendering, contract administration, and subcontract lifecycle management.

• Measure quantities, monitor costs, and support project managers in delivering accurate reports.

• Manage resources such as budgets, contracts, and equipment efficiently to ensure value for money.

• Actively comply with all company policies including equality, sustainability, health & safety, and environmental standards.

Candidate Profile:

• Minimum BSc in Quantity Surveying or an equivalent qualification.

• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with NEC contracts (NEC3 or NEC4 option C essential).

• Proven ability to negotiate, present, and manage contracts effectively.

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with keen attention to detail.

• Strong organisational and time-management skills to meet tight deadlines.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).

• Effective communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
