We are seeking a talented Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Advisory & Programme Delivery (APD) Transportation team, supporting the successful delivery of major highways projects. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment, with clear opportunities for long-term progression.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in the commercial management of multiple projects and workstreams across complex highways programmes. You will be accountable for managing client relationships and ensuring Mott MacDonald’s contractual and commercial obligations are met.

Working as part of the core project team, you will collaborate closely with the wider Advisory, Project, and Programme Management teams to ensure successful delivery of project outcomes aligned with client expectations. You will provide expert commercial advice, drive robust cost control practices, and contribute to the efficient and successful delivery of critical infrastructure projects.

Within our Advisory & Programme Delivery (APD) we deliver advisory, project, programme and commercial management services to customers. We operate in Highways, Rail, Aviation and Maritime. Our vision is to deliver major transportation projects as part of a global business and to establish our wide-ranging consultancy as ‘credible’ and ‘preferred’ for our existing and new clients.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Provide key support to the senior project manager in the delivery of commission obligations and internal project performance
  • Control the internal and external commercial aspects of project across a range of contractual arrangements
  • Advise and work closely with the project and design managers to ensure successful delivery of projects to time, quality, budget throughout the project lifecycle
  • Liaising with Client Representative on commercial matters and acting as focal point for the MM team on commercial and contractual issues. Contribute to open and effective communications across the project delivery and client teams
  • Driving effective change management across the project
  • Procurement and management of Sub Consultants including timesheet approvals and payments
  • Mentor colleagues in the skills of cost and commercial management
  • Contribute to securing opportunities and repeat business through the high quality of service delivery
     

Candidate specification
Essential:

  • NEC3/4 Accreditation or significant knowledge and experience
  • Proven track record of commercial managing a range of infrastructure and built environment developments and disciplines, with substantial experience of managing and leading large project teams to successful outcomes
  • Highways or major infrastructure experience
  • Degree in Accountancy/ Finance/ Quantity Surveying/Engineering Discipline or equivalent
  • Chartered Membership with RICS/ICES or relevant professional institute
  • Demonstrable experience of working within a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to create and manage workpackage labour estimates, and associated P/L
  • Ability to take ownership of contract administration, billing, cost management, sub contractor financial management, cost reconciliation, P/L reporting at a project level
  • Ability to plan the cost management in the organisational ERP systems with advanced ability to reproduce reports in a customer facing environment
  • Ability to guide team members to create an efficient cost and contract administration procedures
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Effective time management with excellent presentation and communication skills
