Senior Service Technician

Description:

British Solar Renewables (BSR) is seeking a Senior Service Technician to join its Operations & Maintenance (O&M) team. Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager, the role is pivotal in ensuring the effective delivery of O&M services for operational solar PV and battery storage projects. The technician will carry out both planned and reactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repair activities, ensuring operational sites achieve performance, availability, and safety objectives.

The position requires a proactive, technically skilled professional who enjoys working outdoors, can operate independently, and is committed to health and safety excellence. This role involves travel across Suffolk and Essex, occasional overnight stays, and participation in a weekend on-call rota.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct planned preventative maintenance on electrical, mechanical, structural, auxiliary, communication, and security systems.

• Respond to reactive maintenance issues, carrying out diagnostics and repairs.

• Follow BSR’s Health & Safety policies, risk assessments, HV/LV safety rules, and HR policies.

• Perform inspections, maintain records, and update management systems.

• Manage site and vehicle inventories, completing weekly timesheets.

• Supervise and provide inductions to subcontractors, landowners, technical advisors, and visitors.

• Travel occasionally outside the region to support O&M contracts, including overnight stays when needed.

• Participate in ongoing training and contribute to the continuous improvement of safe systems of work and quality processes.

Skills & Attributes Required:

• Qualified electrician (BS7671 latest version) or electrical engineer.

• Inspection & testing certification (C&G 2391-52 or EAL 4337/8) desirable or working towards.

• Solar PV installation and maintenance experience (utility scale, G59/3, G99).

• Training/experience with central PV and BESS inverter/PCS systems (SMA, Sungrow, Gamesa, Power Electronics) highly desirable.

• HV switchgear/transformer experience with HV AP or SAP training (up to 33kV) an advantage.

• Strong Health & Safety awareness (ECS, IOSH, SSSTS, SMSTS, First Aid).

• Ability to work independently in remote areas and in all weather conditions.

• Excellent fault diagnosis, problem-solving, and time management skills.

• Team player with a proactive, can-do attitude and strong communication skills.

• Enthusiasm for professional development and continuous learning.

• Clean UK driving licence required.
