We are looking for a Technology & Systems Resource Manager to join our highways leadership team with a track record of leading and developing large teams and delivering complex digital solutions and ITS projects. You will be a member of the Highways & Intelligent Transport Systems (HTS) Divisional Management Team, helping to shape our future direction in the UK and playing a central part in our transition towards delivering highways as part of a net-zero economy.

As Technology & Systems Resource Manager you will lead a resource group of over 60 professionals including ITS Consultants, Software Developers and Systems Engineers. You will be responsible for the management and growth of technical teams within the portfolio reporting directly to the Divisional General Manager. This will involve managing staff wellbeing, mentoring, career development, performance, reward, recruitment and resource optimisation across teams, together with supporting external engagement to develop and promote services across Mott MacDonald and externally to existing and new clients. You will work with the Divisional Resource Manager to optimise resource allocation to projects and bids, identify and address training and recruitment needs, input to succession planning and make recommendations relating to reward and recognition.

As a senior member of the Division there is an expectation that this role will be largely fee earning (80%), either in a Project Director or Technical Director capacity working across our project portfolio. We are a forward-looking organisation and you will help spearhead our drive to innovate, standardise and automate delivery across projects supported by our practice and excellence networks. You will play a leading role in delivering great projects for our clients that align to our purpose of creating positive social outcomes through delivery excellence.

Your Responsibilities Will Mean That You Will

  • Manage, develop and grow the Technology & Systems Resource Group with a focus on health, safety and wellbeing, team resource optimisation, staff development and talent management
  • Engage with portfolio staff to foster high levels of inclusion, communication, collaboration, retention and motivation
  • Line manage senior staff within the portfolio group
  • Develop a collaborative behavioural team culture to support our global delivery model
  • In collaboration with the HR partner manage the performance of the staff including sickness, absence and any disciplinary, grievance and capability issues in line with group policy
  • Deliver to budget, programme, and quality where applicable in a senior project role
  • Guide major project bids securing our right to win, delivering customer needs and a competitive commercial strategy

In this role, you’ll be accountable for:

  • Health, safety and wellbeing of Technology & Systems staff
  • Translating our overall organisational policies into day-to-day practice, whilst at the same time tailoring this approach to individuals/teams
  • Team planning, succession, talent management, training and development needs
  • Management and recruitment budgets allocated to the portfolio
  • Team resource optimisation (in collaboration with team leaders and other Portfolio Resource Managers)
  • Successful delivery of projects to time, cost, and quality (in either a Project Director or Technical Director capacity)
