Team Leader

Description:

The Environment Agency is seeking a dynamic Team Leader to manage a team responsible for the River Thames navigations. This includes leading staff who operate locks and weirs, manage recreational activity, enforce boat registration, and support wider asset management objectives. The role requires bringing the team along during a period of operational change aimed at improving efficiency and delivering better services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a team of 12 Lock and Weir Keepers and technical staff.

• Assume line management responsibilities, including performance management and staff development.

• Ensure Health, Safety, and Wellbeing for the team and self.

• Provide well-researched correspondence informed by technical knowledge, experience, and legal advice.

• Work with customer representatives and professional partners.

• Manage change and embed effective operational practices.

• Participate in incident management as required.

• Maintain a front-line presence and regularly visit operational sites.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Experience taking responsibility for operational safety and team wellbeing.

• Proven leadership and team development skills.

• Performance management experience.

• Experience embedding change within operational teams.

• Strong communication skills and ability to manage correspondence at multiple levels.

• Knowledge of policy and legislation relevant to waterways management.

• Confident swimmer due to the nature of the work on the river and boats.

Contract & Location Details:

• Hybrid working supported; office-based in Shepperton with site visits and front-line operational presence.
