Technician

Description:

CY Partners is collaborating with a pioneering Medtech organization specializing in molecular diagnostics, integrating advanced microfluidics and precision electromechanical systems to revolutionize healthcare diagnostics. Operating under ISO 13485 standards within a BSL-2 laboratory, this team brings together experts from engineering and biology to deliver innovative, reliable, and rapid diagnostic technologies that have a direct impact on patient outcomes.

This 6-month, on-site contract based in London presents an exceptional opportunity for a Senior Engineering Technician with hands-on expertise in troubleshooting, assembling, and optimizing complex medical device prototypes and instruments. The role requires close collaboration with engineers and scientists, active participation in R&D development cycles, and ownership of small-scale technical projects—all while ensuring compliance with stringent quality and documentation standards in a regulated environment.

The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, cross-disciplinary setting and possess the technical versatility to manage electromechanical systems, fluid handling, and precision components.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues across complex electromechanical instrumentation in a BSL-2 lab environment.

  • Perform functional tests using control software and workshop tools to support R&D and verification activities.

  • Assemble and maintain experimental R&D devices, rigs, and fixtures involving microfluidics, pneumatics, sensors, motion and temperature control systems, and fluid handling components.

  • Collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams, including engineering, diagnostics, and biological science departments.

  • Create and maintain detailed documentation, including SOPs, BOMs, WIs, and test reports, following ISO 13485 and QMS standards.

  • Manage assigned projects independently, plan tasks, and communicate risks or technical challenges proactively.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience as an Engineering Technician in Medtech, medical devices, diagnostics, or related regulated sectors.

  • Strong hands-on skills in troubleshooting and maintaining precision electromechanical systems.

  • Proficiency in rapid prototyping techniques (CNC milling, 3D printing, laser cutting), soldering, electrical assembly, and CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks).

  • Experience working in BSL-2 laboratory environments with good awareness of lab safety procedures.

  • Excellent documentation and communication abilities, ensuring precision and compliance with ISO 13485 requirements.

  • Familiarity with project and issue tracking tools such as Jira or Trello.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with micro-pumps, valves, vacuum/pressure systems, sensors, DAQ, thermal control, or data logging in medical device development.

Why Join:

  • Opportunity to contribute to life-changing medical device innovations in molecular diagnostics.

  • Work at the intersection of engineering, biology, and microfluidics with direct real-world impact.

  • Collaborative, innovation-driven work culture with visibility and recognition for contributions.

  • Immediate hands-on engagement in meaningful Medtech R&D projects.

  • Competitive day rate contract based in London, offering high-impact professional experience.
