Description:

UNSW’s City Futures Research Centre seeks an Associate Professor or Professor in Housing Economics to lead research and teaching in housing economics. The role focuses on advancing understanding of housing markets, governance, financing, social and affordable housing, and housing affordability. The appointee will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across city planning, urban analytics, sustainability, and other research areas.

Level D (Associate Professor) duties include conducting innovative research nationally with emerging international impact, leading funding proposals, supervising HDR students, delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and engaging with academic and professional communities. Level E (Professor) duties expand to providing academic leadership, fostering international research excellence, securing competitive funding, leading community and industry engagement, and supporting university governance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead high-impact housing economics research and secure research funding

  • Develop and deliver diverse teaching programs and supervise research students

  • Engage with academic, professional, and community stakeholders

  • Drive knowledge exchange and commercialization of research

  • Contribute to program development and academic quality assurance

  • Provide leadership (Level E) in academic, industry, and community settings

  • Mentor colleagues and support equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives

Qualifications & Experience:

  • PhD in a related field (Economics, Urban Studies, Housing Policy, etc.)

  • Proven research leadership and high-quality publication record

  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods in housing economics

  • Teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels

  • Leadership and mentorship skills (particularly for Level E)

  • Ability to build national and international research partnerships
