Design Manager

Description:

Skanska, one of the world’s foremost construction and project development groups, is currently seeking a Design Manager – Rail to join their Infrastructure team based in Liverpool. In this role, you will lead and coordinate engineering and design management activities for major rail infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for ensuring that all design and engineering deliverables meet Network Rail standards and are completed on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement Engineering and Design Management Plans, tools, and procedures for assigned projects.

• Support the Project CEM (Contractor’s Engineering Manager) in fulfilling engineering management duties as defined in the management plan.

• Manage external designers and oversee design packages to ensure compliance with project timelines, quality standards, and Network Rail regulations.

• Oversee the delivery and assurance of specific work packages, managing design maturity and ensuring alignment with overall commercial strategy.

• Provide technical support for commercial teams regarding pricing, changes, and strategic planning.

Required Background:

• Proven experience in managing design and construction processes within the rail sector, ideally with exposure to Network Rail standards.

• Ability to implement and develop engineering management systems and procedures.

• Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset to work with a wide range of stakeholders and teams.

• Demonstrated experience managing technically complex infrastructure design and delivery activities.
