The Role:
New City College, London’s largest FE college group, is looking for an motivated and customer-focused IT Technician to join our established IT Services team.
This is a frontline 1st/2nd line support role providing on-site technical support across two campuses. You will play a key role in ensuring teaching, learning and business operations are supported by reliable and well-managed technology.
You’ll be part of a structured IT team operating to consistent standards across the College, working closely with IT Managers and technical colleagues to deliver a professional and responsive IT Service.
Key responsibilities:
- Act as the onsite IT support presence across campuses, providing responsive 1st and 2nd line support to staff and students.
- Log, diagnose and resolve incidents using College’s IT service management system, escalating complex issues where appropriate.
- Support PCs, Thin Clients and Apple Macs, including operating system installation and troubleshooting.
- Support Microsoft 365 applications and services, user accounts and classroom technologies including AV and smartboards.
- Maintain printers, IP telephony, wired and wireless network connectivity.
- Assist with device deployment, software installation and centrally managed endpoint tools.
- Maintain accurate asset records and support hardware lifecycle processes including refresh and disposal.
- Assist with basic network troubleshooting and structured cabling/patching in line with agreed standards
- Provide support during enrolment, examinations and peak operational periods, including participation in rota-based evening cover.
What we are looking for:
- At least one year’s hands-on IT support experience in a busy environment.
- Experience supporting Windows 10/11, Active Directory and Microsoft 365
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly with non-technical users.
- Experience using call logging or service desk systems.
- A practical and organised approach to troubleshooting and problem solving.
- A good understanding of basic networking principles.
- The ability to manage workload independently while working as part of a wider IT team.
- A proactive mindset and willingness to continue developing technical skills.
